International
Day of the Girl is more than just a day. It is a movement to speak out against
gender bias and advocate for girls’ rights everywhere. The United Nations
General Assembly passed a resolution marking October 11 as the International
Day of the Girl. 10.11.12 is bigger than one issue, one organization, or
even one country.
The
Day of the Girl is about highlighting, celebrating, discussing, and advancing
girls lives and opportunities across the globe. When girls come together to
talk about what really matters to us, we can teach other people–grownups, boys,
and girls all across the world–a new way of thinking about issues like gender
stereotypes, discrimination, and opportunity.
Get the girls together in your troop and get a
city proclamation. This official declaration provides an opportunity for you to
support girls everywhere, and speak out against the stereotypes, obstacles and
problems girls still face. It means asking your Mayor or Councilmember to
declare 10.11.12 as the Day of the Girl!
