On Thursday, April 25, a Texarkana Girl Scout volunteer was recognized for her contributions to the Girl Scout Movement at the Hands On Texarkana’s 15th Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.  Lisa McDermott was nominated for recognition by the Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas for her outstanding commitment to the organization and the Girl Scout Movement.

Lisa currently serves on the Girl Scouts – Diamonds Board of Directors, where she is active on the Property and Strategic Learning Committees.  Lisa’s passion for Girl Scouting goes back to her years working with the Girl Scouts of Conifer Council, where she served in many different roles, including board member, troop leader, council trainer, event coordinator, and PR committee chair.

“Lisa is an amazing volunteer who gives tirelessly of her time and energy.  She combines her professional talents with her volunteer efforts in order to provide excellent services to girls and adults in the Girl Scout world,” stated Diamonds Council CEO, Denise Stewart.  Lisa started her “career” as an amazing volunteer while still a teenager.  She volunteered as a candy striper and a member of various Kiwanis Club youth groups.  As a young professional she reached out to various groups in her community to provide her volunteer services in an enthusiastic way – creating passion and energy in whatever she participated.

When asked what makes Lisa an outstanding volunteer, Stewart replied, “Lisa is the epitome of the community volunteer.  She is interested in the total health and quality of life for her community and fellow citizens.  She gives unselfishly and will do anything in her power to accomplish her goals, and the goals of the organization.  Her value to Girl Scouting cannot be calculated – it is a priceless gift that she has given to girls and volunteers for many years.”
