    <title>International Day of the Girl</title>
    <link>http://girlscoutsdiamonds.org/CouncilInfo/News/tabid/71/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/39/International-Day-of-the-Girl.aspx</link>
    <description>International
Day of the Girl is more than just a day. It is a movement to speak out against
gender bias and advocate for girls&amp;rsquo; rights everywhere. The United Nations
General Assembly passed a resolution marking October 11 as the International
Day of the Girl.&amp;nbsp; 10.11.12 is bigger than one issue, one organization, or
even one country.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

The
Day of the Girl is about highlighting, celebrating, discussing, and advancing
girls lives and opportunities across the globe. When girls come together to
talk about what really matters to us, we can teach other people&amp;ndash;grownups, boys,
and girls all across the world&amp;ndash;a new way of thinking about issues like gender
stereotypes, discrimination, and opportunity. &amp;nbsp;
Get the girls together in your troop and get a
city proclamation. This official declaration provides an opportunity for you to
support girls everywhere, and speak out against the stereotypes, obstacles and
problems girls still face. It means asking your Mayor or Councilmember to
declare 10.11.12 as the Day of the Girl!

    <title>DEADLINE EXTENDED! Our Journey to the Ballot Box</title>
    <link>http://girlscoutsdiamonds.org/CouncilInfo/News/tabid/71/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/38/DEADLINE-EXTENDED-Our-Journey-to-the-Ballot-Box.aspx</link>
    <description>We are excited to say that we have a great opportunity
coming soon that will help Brownie through Ambassador girls earn
parts of the citizen badge. &amp;nbsp;Please take a second to look at the attached
flyer regarding the council program &amp;ldquo;Our Journey to the Ballot Box.&amp;rdquo; &amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

The 19th Amendment, which granted women the right
to vote, will be on display at the Clinton Presidential Library for only a few
days in October. With this being an election year, and the 100th
year of Girl Scouting, what better time to educate yourselves, your girls and
your communities about the importance of voting, and the struggle that many
women went through to make the right for women to vote a reality? &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;
An additional exciting part of this announcement is that we
have an opportunity for Cadettes and up to help plan and carryout this girl-led
event in conjunction with the Clinton Presidential Library and council staff.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

Save the Date:&amp;nbsp;

    October 20th, 10am-2pm, Clinton Presidential
    Library, Little Rock, AR is the date of the actual program &amp;ldquo;Our Journey to the
    Ballot Box&amp;rdquo; that is open to Brownies-Ambassadors.&amp;nbsp; Please note that this
    is the same date as the Race for the Cure, but the race participants will be
    finished before the start time of the program, so please consider doing both if
    you already had the race on your calendar to do with family or your troops. &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;

Register by October 10, 2012!

    <description>The Girl Scouts of the USA has partnered with the U. S. Department of&amp;nbsp;Homeland Security (DHS) and joined the Stop.Think.Connect. Campaign&amp;rsquo;s National Network.
The Stop.Think.Connect. Campaign is a national public awareness effort among&amp;nbsp;government, industry, and non-profits designed to guide the nation to a higher level of&amp;nbsp;Internet security by educating and empowering the American public to be more vigilant&amp;nbsp;about practicing safe online habits.
The campaign will provide Girl Scouts with tools and resources to help raise awareness&amp;nbsp;among kids, teens and young adults about emerging online threats and the importance of&amp;nbsp;cybersecurity. This partnership builds on the campaign&amp;rsquo;s efforts to highlight curriculum&amp;nbsp;resources available to communities as well as to promote cyber security awareness to&amp;nbsp;millions of girls engaged in Girl Scouting.
Through this relationship, the Girl Scouts of the USA will advocate and promote&amp;nbsp;cybersecurity awareness across the country. Visit the DHS Stop.Think.Connect.&amp;nbsp;Campaign Materials and&amp;nbsp;Toolkit&amp;nbsp;for information to share with adults and girls to educate them on the importance of staying safe online.</description>

    <description>&quot;Don't fear failure; instead, fear failing to try. Taking the risks necessary to achieve excellence means you must embrace some failure along the path to excellence. My only fear is that I will look back and regret that I didn&amp;rsquo;t try.&quot; ~ Darcy Pattison
